The Helicopter Daughter was born from a deeply personal journey of caregiving, resilience, and self-discovery. Karen Hadden, MBA, CHC, combined her experiences as a caregiver, wellness advocate, and heart surgery survivor to create a mission-driven space: one that inspires others to pause, reset, and recharge through meaningful moments of care and connection.
Karen’s journey began in 2016, when both of her parents faced serious health challenges. Her mother battled COPD and other chronic illnesses, while her stepfather was diagnosed with terminal cancer. As their primary caregiver, Karen found herself navigating the emotional and physical demands of supporting her parents while trying to maintain her own well-being.
When her mother passed away unexpectedly just six months later, Karen had to set aside her own grief and health to focus on caring for her stepfather. The weight of caregiving took a toll, and Karen began to experience chronic health challenges, including a debilitating Vestibular Disorder. She learned firsthand how difficult it was to balance life’s demands while caring for others and herself.
In 2023, Karen faced another life-altering challenge: open heart surgery. Her recovery became a pivotal moment in her journey, showing her how vital self-care is—not just for the body, but for the mind and soul. During this time, she leaned into natural solutions, meaningful moments, and intentional self-care practices that reminded her of her strength and resilience.
These experiences shaped Karen’s mission to create The Helicopter Daughter. This isn’t just a store—it’s a sanctuary for those navigating caregiving, chronic illness, or simply the everyday stresses of life. Karen’s vision is to offer thoughtfully curated products, creative workshops, and heartfelt storytelling that inspire others to find balance, embrace wellness, and rediscover joy in the simplest of moments.
